    Serbia continues to play a leading part in the world-wide water polo in every category and took today one more giant lead. Serbia was the victor of the 16th FINA World Men's Junior Water Polo Championships in Volos. Serbia won in the final of the competition (game for the places 1-2 of the 9th and last session) against Spain with score 9-6 and took fairly the gold medal.

    This is the first gold medal for Serbia and the second totally (has one more bronze medal). Serbia in the past has already taken as Serbia-Montenegro 2 gold medals and as United Yogoslavia 1 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals.

    Spain took the second silver medal in the history if the competition and the 6th totally (has 3 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze).

    Serba had the control of the game from the start and was leading over Spain with score 7-3. Spain reduced the difference in one goal (7-6) in 7.05 before the end of the game. In the end, the world champions had the control of the game. They had tight defence and after the goals which Saponic put in extra player trial in 2.09 and Vuksanovic in contra trial in the last second of the game, they took the win with final score 9-6.

    Greece, the hostess team of the competition took the bronze medal of the 16th FINA World Men's Junior Water Polo Championships in Volos in front of 2000 fans at the National Outdoor Swimming Pool of the city.

    Greeks won the game for the places 3-4 of the 9th and last session of the competition against Australia with score 7-5 and put in their collection the second bronze medal in their history and the 5th totally (they have taken one more gold medal in 2001 in Instabul, two silver, in 1995 in Dunkerque and in 2009 in Sibenik and one more bronze medal in 1997 in Havana).

    Australia, the team which had taken in the past one more silver medal (in 1995 in Dunkerque), took the 4th place.

    The game was sensational with the two teams to be interchanged in score. The third period finished with tie 5-5. Greece had a lead over Australia in the start of the fourth period with score 6-5 after Gouvis' goal while lost penalty in 3.11'' before the end (Dermitzakis shot on the crossbar). Solanakis stamped the win for Greece in 1.54'' with goal in the extra payer trial and achieved the score 7-5 under frantic cheering.

    The defence in less player trial (Australians had 0/5 in extra player trials) was the "big gun" for Greece, while they had good percentage in extra player trials (4/8).

    The game for the 5th place of the 16th FINA World Men's Junior Water Polo Championships was judged in penalties with Italy to be the winner of this game after scoring 12-11 against Croatia (7-7 the game and the extra time) at the National Swimming Pool of Volos.

    Croatia had a lead over Italy with score 2-0 in the start of the game but the evolution of the game was sensational compiting two equivalent teams.

    Italy tied 1.17'' before the end of the normal time of the game with Di Fulvo's goal. There was no goal in extra time, while Italy felt through once and Croatia twice. The two teams of this game had higher targets and the final ranking of the competition doesn't satisfy them.

    Montenegro took the 7th place of the 16th FINA World Men's Junior Water Polo Championships after the win against Hungary with score 11-8 in the first game of the last day of the competition which is held at the National Swimming Pool of Volos.

    Maguars startled their competitiors. They had a lead over Montenegro with score 2-0in the start of the game. However, Montenegro showed early on the game who will be the winner after 7 goals one next to the other.

    Periklis Damaskos, the National Greek Coach, quoted just after the defeat of Serbia with score 6-5 for the semifinals of the 16th FINA World Men's Junior Water Polo Championships in Volos: " Two very strong teams were competed. We tried a lot. There was tiredness from the game against Hungary and this tiredness presented in the final trial. We were not accurate, we were pressured and in a hurry. We have to keep our head up. We claim a medal".

    Dejan Stanojevic, the National Serbian Coach quoted: "It was a game between two equal in strength teams. The game was judged in details. The players competed very well. Greece is a strong team. The atmosphere in the swimming pool was fantastic. The people were excellent. The final against Spain is 50-50. We need to have brain and few mistakes".

    The second semifinal between Greece and Serbia was judged in extra time (5-6), after a sensational game which pinned down more than 2000 water polo friends at the National Swimming Pool of Volos.

    The game (regular duration) finished 5-5, with Serbians to tie 3.18 before the end, the goal with which Greece had a lead over (4.23)

    Serbia managed to change the difference in the first period and in duration 1.14'' to score three times pinning down Greece who had a lead over with score 2-0. The game was sensational with the defenses of the two games to have the first occasion. Greece lost the chance 47'' before the end of the second period to tie 3-3 when Genidounias lost the penalty. Serbia won after the goal of Milos Mikcic (2.02 of the first 3min) in extra time and qualified to the final tomorrow against Spain.

    They got the rematch for the semifinal of 2009 (Sibenik) where Greece had left them out of the final with the same score (6-5).
